Yesterday's session was started with tilawat and naat recitation. Our trainer shared an activity sheet which actually is an established test to identify learning style of a person. Participants were finding a bit difficult to understand the questions. I, during my research, have used such tools and so was pretty much familiar with the method and mode of this test. As participants were conducting and sharing their scores, it was evident that most people's visual learning is strongest as compare to audio or kinesthetics. Perhaps the activity would be thoroughly enjoyed in face-face session. The trainer then started discussion over learning styles and multiple intelligences. While listening to a long and continuous lecture, though slides were its visual part, I lost focus in the session multiple times and have to work hard to focus on the content. Gardener's multiple intelligences was explained by giving relatable examples which makes the concept a little bit easier. Teaching strategies considering various types of intelligences inside the classroom were then discussed. Pros and cons of each method was explained in detail. He explained how lecture method when embedded with questioning and brainstorming techniques, can be transformed in student centered class. Group discussions and how to create and manage groups. Role play, assignments, research and project based methods. The main and most awaited section of today's session was lesson planning. Trainer first explained 3 key elements of a plan and then gave students group task of developing a lesson plan while working on a particular competency. We were also assigned the task of preparing PowerPoint lesson in same group and deliver our lesson in the class while focusing on the latest trends in that competency. The room I went in was Group 2 and adding to my excitement was name of Afsheen in the same room. As we have been working in collaboration for a long time, working with Afsheen is always comfortable for me. One of our room member created whatsapp group to remain in contact after the session. This whole day we remained so much engaged in discussing, collecting and preparing presentation content. From the start, me and Afsheen offered to take leading role and present on behalf of our group. Few very good and competent contacts were developed which will inshallah be benefitting for me in future.
